Ever stay at a Destination ...?

After a long day of sightseeing, driving past fields of Idaho's potatoes and looking for Idaho's famous waterfalls, we've arrived at our "destination," literally. That's the name of the hotel.

We booked the Egypt Room in the downtown hotel, and this room is the only reason we back-tracked on the Interstate. We don't normally reserve rooms like this, but ... this is vacation and we made a couple of exceptions.

If we had known how pretty Idaho Falls is and its ghostly history, we would have made a point to be here much sooner.

Aw, closed. Darn. This business was on the other side of the railroad tracks ... literally.

We'll have to go back in the summer time, maybe take our bicycles and experience more of the area.

Wait a minute while we grab a quick bite. Once we get back in the room, we're not leaving until way past sunup.

Destinations Inn is in old downtown Idaho Falls. Parking is free and at the side of the building. Signs warns that motorists who park too long will be ticketed or towed, but the desk clerk said the police agreed to be lenient with their guests. That's good, since our rental car had expired tags. Ha!

Before we go into our room, let's share a little history.
The building opened in 1905. It housed O.P. Skaggs grocery story, professional offices and Ferrell's Clothing.
Eventually the building became an Eagles Lodge building. By 2004, it was run down and condemnation was threatened.
A couple purchased the old building, then spent 18 months renovating and transforming it into luxury, theme suites.
Come on inside.

The hotel was filled the Monday night we stayed, but we only saw two other guests who checked in after us.

This big, old three-story building has few rooms, but the rooms it has are all different.
Come on inside. This is like an amusement park. We're not sure what to do first.
This is on the second floor. It also has the Congo Room, Moroccan Room, Alaskan Room and a couple of other themes.

Welcome to our room. We've dropped our luggage inside the door and picked our chins up off the floor. We could live in this room.

As you can see, a movie size screen drops down over the end of the bed. Dwain is checking out the sound system and reading instructions for a basket full of remotes, while Megan checks out the tub.

What scent of oil is Megan pouring in the tub? We can promise one thing, the water is hot.

We've adjusted the lights; a bottle is on ice; the jets and light are on in the tub; and the light is on in the sauna in the right corner of the room.

Isn't this a welcoming sight?
Ah, time to relax and forget our road-weariness.

This may be the closest we ever get to Egypt, so time to turn up the Egyptian music, dim the lights and savor the atmosphere.

No Megan! You're not one of the Bangles, even though you may walk like an Egyptian. No! Please do not open that thing. Remember Pandora's Box?

But Megan can open this refrigerator and did. Look what she found inside - 2 large slices of cheesecake. Now that's a bedtime snack.

Breakfast was either continental deliver to our door, or a complimentary breakfast at Smitty's.

We're big breakfast people and couldn't turn down the temptation of "Everybody's Favorite Smitty's." Dwain, that lucky dog, found a Baby Dutch on the breakfast menu. We've never seen one of those on a breakfast menu. A Baby Dutch is a cross between a pancake and a popover, cooked in the oven. It came with a fresh lemon slice, butter, a shaker of powdered sugar and fresh strawberries. Yes, he shared a little with Megan.

Unfortunately, we didn't stop and get a picture of the Idaho Falls, but it is depicted in the oil painting behind Dwain's head. The falls has a haunted history, along with several places along the falls.

Back on the road again, traveling past meadows, woodlands, waterfalls and mountains.
